Meet the Owner
Shawntel Jones Henderson, affectionately known as Shawny to most, is a graduate of privately accredited Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI, and she has always had a passion for helping others grow and succeed, personally and professionally.
As a strong leader and entrepreneur in organizational leadership and development for over 14 years in financial services, healthcare, and logistics, she has learned that businesses thrive when they are organizationally sound with processes and procedures that allow their staff to feel empowered and supported. Creating an environment that is organized, compliant, and fun to be in, is the overall vision she has for her clients. With the recent downfalls of our economy, our communities have been hit harder than ever. Our small businesses have suffered and there has never been a more important time to scale and cater to the growth of your business. But you don’t have to do it alone. UJIMA is committed to helping their community small businesses grow and become confident in the fact that they are running an organizationally sound and compliant business.
UJIMA Business Organization & Consulting, LLC has been a seed implanted in her heart for many years, since 2012 to be exact. In 2021, during the Covid shutdown, she decided to finally bring her idea to life. During this time, as businesses struggled to stay open with the decrease in sales, inability to pay bills, some businesses realized they did not have efficient processes, back up plans to continue to generate revenue or even enough staff to stay afloat. After the COVID-19 shutdown, the blessing was that new companies emerged, as potential entrepreneurs had nothing but time to create their business plans and come up with ways to funnell their dreams.

The name UJIMA, is a Swahili word that means "collective work and responsibility". It is a principle during Kwanzaa (an annual celebration of African-American culture starting in late December of each year, lasting seven days - UJIMA is day 3 of Kwanzaa) that emphasizes the importance of community and working together to achieve goals. To build and maintain our community together and make our community's problems our problems and to solve them together. Growing up with an Islamic father, Shawny was engulfed in African American culture and traditions. Her father traveled the world in support of, and to study, Islam and African culture. He would come home and teach his family and friends about his new learnings and foster the importance of community involvement, community support and standing together as a culture teaching our children about our history and where we come from. Because of this, Shawny learned that without the support of our own kind, we fall short and cannot pass on those traditions and beautiful cultural celebrations to our families.
